The Graduate Diploma in Law (GradDipLaw) caters for the needs of graduates
in disciplines other than law who have an interest in the study of law at an
advanced level (for example accountants, para-legal workers, legal studies
teachers, law office librarians, administrators and management personnel). It
also increases the range of options for graduates in law wanting to
undertake further study, by offering a high-standard program at a level below
masters.
A candidate for the Graduate Diploma in Law must complete four approved units.
Candidates who do not have an undergraduate law degree must complete LAW7212
'Australian legal system' as one of the four units. Exemptions for some
students may apply.
Students may enrol in the general graduate diploma or one of the following
specialisations:
Banking and finance law -- for those who wish to keep abreast of local
and international developments from a policy and a practical perspective and
obtain a thorough grounding in fundamental principles of security and financial
services law
Commercial law -- for those who:
Intellectual property -- for those who wish to:
International and comparative law -- for those who want to pursue an international career in law and law-related work. This area is especially suited to:
Internet and electronic law -- for those who wish to keep
abreast of laws relating to electronic commerce and the internet and develop
further knowledge and skills in relation to electronic commerce.
Tribunal procedures -- for those members of administrative tribunals
who require certain core skills and knowledge carry out their role, whatever
their professional background. Monash Law has developed a comprehensive
postgraduate program to enable members to develop those skills and that
knowledge.
Candidates enrolled in specialised diplomas are required to complete units in
that discipline. Information concerning specialisations is outlined in detail
