The faculty offers a wide range of pathways in the Master of Education
degree by coursework, either by direct enrolment at masters level or via
postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas which fully articulate into
the masters program. Students may undertake a general course or concentrate on
one of a number of pathways. As a general rule, each consists of two compulsory
core units and a combination of units chosen from a nominated list, units
chosen from other specialist pathways, units undertaken in other faculties, and
project work.
In some courses where registration or employment requirements are involved,
additional units may be specified.
In general terms, to be eligible for admission to the Master of Education degree applicants must hold either an approved three-year bachelors degree and an approved fourth year of study, or an approved four-year bachelors degree, or have qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

This is a conceptual outline only. It gives a general indication of how the
course will progress and is subject to change without notice. Students should
consult their course coordinator to assist in planning their program.
Where students undertake a series of units that meet the requirements of an approved pathway, this pathway will be shown on their testamur.
Candidates who wish to proceed to doctoral-level studies (PhD or EdD) must meet the entrance requirements by having completed research at honours or masters level. To be eligible for doctoral-level studies, Master of Education candidates must complete a research thesis, ie option 3. They must achieve a grade of distinction or above for the thesis and an average of distinction or above in their coursework units.
The MEd by coursework may be taken either full-time or part-time. It is expected that full-time candidates will complete all requirements within 18 months (three semesters) while part-time candidates should complete all requirements within three years. The expected number of study hours per week for a full-time student is 48.
Units within the Master of Education by coursework are offered in various flexible learning modes. These may include units offered via summer school, winter school, through on-campus and off-campus modes. Some units may be offered on one or more campuses or in more than one mode.
