Master of Management


General information

This 12-unit Master of Management has been designed to allow students the flexibility to select a course of study which enables them to develop the broad range of knowledge and skills required to be successful in the changing world of business. After foundation studies in management theory and leadership, students can tailor their studies to suit their individual requirements and interests by choosing a course of higher-level units from the graduate offerings of the Department of Management.
The degree can be completed by either a coursework option or by a coursework and research paper option.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average of credit or above. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of eight credit exemptions for units considered to be equivalent to particular requirements in the course of study. Credit is restricted to study completed in the last five years. Refer to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Management as to the 2002 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Course structure

The course consists of five core units and seven elective units:
(a) Core units

(b) Three electives chosen from 9000-level units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics or faculties of Monash University
and
(c) Four electives chosen from 5000-level graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics or faculties of Monash University, with course director approval,
or
Two electives chosen from 5000-level graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University with course director approval, and a 10,000-word research paper (equivalent to two units).
Students should complete four 9000-level graduate units before commencing 5000-level units and must obtain course director approval for any variation.
