Master of Tourism


General information

The Master of Tourism is a broad based multidiscplinary program with strong industry links, specifically designed to equip students with the skills required to develop a career in the tourism (or associated) industry. It seeks to provide students with a strategic understanding of how the industry operates and how academic theories are applicable to it. Unit areas covered in the program include; marketing and international marketing, cultural tourism, development and planning, e-commerce, information technology, environmental studies, cross cultural and regional studies and communications.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a bachelors degree (or international equivalent) with at least a credit average in the final year in any discipline, or a bachelors pass degree in any discipline with demonstrable professional experience at senior level in a relevant area. Such applicants will need to supply a CV, a 1000-word statement and names of two professional referees.

Course structure

The Master of Tourism would usually be undertaken on a full-time basis over 18 months/three semesters, and six semesters part time. Students complete 48 points of level four units (12 points) selected from the following:

and 12 points of electives (can be two six-point units) from the faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, and Information Technology such as:

and 24 points of level-five units including at least one of the alternative core units:
