Masters Qualifying in German with a research component*


General information

Program code: 1988 + Program fee: Local students -- HECS; international -- students $A13,500 pa
The program has two streams: German literary studies, and German linguistics. Candidates must complete a total of 48 points, unless they have not yet completed a unit equivalent to GNM4615 and GNM4625 during their undergraduate studies, they must enrol in one of the following core sequences (6 + 6 points):

Entry requirements

The pass degree of BA with results at least at credit level in the third part of a major sequence in German studies.
As per faculty policy, students who have completed level four units in German studies with results of at least credit level may be granted credit for a maximum of 24 points.

German literary studies

The following units, to a total of 24 points, are compulsory:

With the permission of the section, students may choose a relevant unit from cognate sections or centres.
With the permission of the section, masters qualifying students may complete a part of their program at a university in a German-speaking country. Students intending to do this are required to make early arrangements with the section.

Studies abroad

All graduate students are strongly encouraged to conduct a part of their studies in a German-speaking country. The section will assist in obtaining scholarships and has made arrangements with German universities enabling students to continue their courses under supervision and with a maximum of assistance.
