The MA by coursework and research is normally completed in one-and-a-half years
of full-time study or three years of part-time study.
Candidates for admission to the MA by coursework and research should normally hold a first class or second class division A honours degree or a first class or second class division A masters qualifying with a grade of distinction or above for the research component.
Students are required to complete two level-five 12-point units totalling 24 points, plus a compulsory research thesis of between 20,000 and 30,000 words weighted at 66 per cent. The choice of topic should be made in close consultation with the supervisor.
Note that the minimum pass grade for units in the Master of Arts is 60 C, ie a grade of credit or above is required in every unit and for the thesis.
Candidates undertaking a 66 per cent research load will normally be required to enrol for all of the units in the coursework component on Clayton campus and may then apply for transfer to external candidature.
