Officers and administrative structure


The chief officers of the faculty are the dean and the faculty manager (Arts). The dean is a professor of the faculty and presides over meetings of the faculty, the faculty board and its committees, and is especially concerned with staffing and finance. In addition, the faculty has five associate deans whose areas of responsibility include teaching, undergraduate /coursework matters graduate research, research, external affairs, and information technology.
The faculty manager (Arts) is responsible for the administration of the faculty, including superintendence over student administration and services, and provision of advice on policy and planning matters.
On the Clayton campus, each school has a graduate coordinator who is available to advise graduate students on the planning of their courses and on changes of course.
Inquiries should be made at the faculty office, first floor, west wing of the Menzies building, Clayton campus. Students based at Caulfield, Peninsula and Gippsland who need advice should consult the faculty office on their home campus in the first instance.
Students wishing to bring any relevant matters to the attention of the student members of the faculty board should feel free to do so. The student members can be contacted c/ -- the office of the faculty manager (Arts), first floor, Menzies building.

Research and coursework areas

The Faculty of Arts has divided its administration of courses into two main areas: a research office and a coursework office. This handbook is divided into the same two sections: research and coursework.
The faculty research office can be contacted on (03) 9905 2105. The manager of the faculty research section is Ms Marianne Gemperle and the associate dean (Graduate Research) is Dr Denise Cuthbert.
The faculty coursework office can be contacted on (03) 9905 2107. The manager of the coursework section is Ms Pam Williams and the associate dean (Teaching) is Associate Professor David Garrioch.
