The aim of the 12-unit Master of Diplomacy and Trade course is to meet the training and professional development needs of those who are engaged in the formulation of foreign trade and administrative policy advice, as well as the implementation and delivery of programs in these areas. The course provides the opportunity to undertake formal academic study at postgraduate level across a range of disciplines directly relevant to the needs of organisations operating in a global or regional environment. A further important objective is to ensure a solid understanding of key issues on the international political and economic agenda, and an appreciation of their implications for the making of foreign and trade policy.
Applicants require a pass degree from a recognised tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification as determined by faculty board, or an executive certificate offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics with an average grade of credit or above.
International students are required to possess English language proficiency of an average IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 in each band or TOEFL 580 and TWE 5 as described in the Postgraduate Guide for International Students.
It is strongly recommended that students have access to a personal computer and a modem to facilitate email communication with their lecturer, other participants and electronic access to library services.
The
Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and Trade is a one-year, full-time or two-year,
part-time course. The Master of Diplomacy and Trade (12 units overall) is a
two-year, full-time or four-year, part-time course. Master of Diplomacy and
Trade students must complete the following units:
(a) Six core units
(b) Six elective units selected from graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments of the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University, subject to the approval of the course director.
A combination of assignments and (in some units) a final examination.
Students may apply for credit exemption for a maximum of eight units considered equivalent to units in the Master of Diplomacy and Trade, and which fall within the time limits prescribed.
