Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Network Computing*

Objectives

The broad objective of the double degree is to provide students with both the technical and organisational competencies to build and implement distributed application systems. This requires that students understand the applications of network computing in business, understand the organisational issues involved in implementing a distributed application system, and are aware of the issues involved in establishing and managing the various types of business associated with network computing.

Course structure

The double degree follows the structural requirements of the two single degrees as follows:

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce comprises six compulsory core subjects (36 points) and an eight-subject major (48 points). The major must include two subjects (12 points) from each of the second and third-year levels. Six subjects (36 points) are free electives. Up to 10 subjects may be taken at the first-year level and at least six subjects (36 points) at third-year level (24 of which must be taken from subjects offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Peninsula campus). In total, 18 subjects (108 points) must be undertaken at the Peninsula campus.

The Bachelor of Network Computing

The degree consists of 144 points of study, of which no more than 60 points are at the first-year level of study, and least 36 points of study are at each of the second and third-year levels. Of the 36 points at third-year level, at least 24 must be computing.
The degree is made up of three components:
1. A compulsory core of 14 subjects (90 points); six (36 points) first-year subjects, six (36 points) second-year subjects; and two (1 12-point subject and 1 6-point subject) third-year subjects; and a minor (computing or non-computing) of 24 points with no more than 12 points at first-year level.
2. Electives (computing or non-computing) in accordance with the points requirements for the degree. Students may convert a minor into a major, by the addition of additional subjects in the designated area to the value of 24 points.

Length of course

Four years of full-time study, or the equivalent in part-time study.

Prerequisite studies

VCE units 3 and 4: a score of at least 25 in both mathematics (any) and English, or equivalent.

Credit provision

Credit arrangements will be put in place with local and overseas institutions, along the lines currently followed by the faculties. Credit will vary from institution to institution and course to course, as appropriate.

Fee structure

International students -- $15,500 per year. Full-fee-paying local students -- $14,250 per year.
