Course abbreviation: BE/LLB
The Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Law offer a double-degree course
which qualifies students for the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and
Bachelor of Laws. The course is available through the departments of Chemical
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering,
Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, Materials Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering. It is intended to bridge the gap between technological
and legal studies and to meet the need to have engineers who are knowledgeable
in the legal, corporate and political arenas.
The BE/LLB double-degree program commences at level 1 and is of not less than
six years' duration if taken full-time. Entry to the course is through the
Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). Applications to transfer to the
double-degree program from engineering students who have completed two (or
more) semesters of study are considered on an individual basis. Students
seeking admission by transfer should note that, since a very high standard is
required for admission through VTAC, a very high standard of performance in
first-year studies will be required of them also.
The course structure is set out in the subject lists following this section.
