Structure and organisation of the faculty

The Faculty of Arts is a body established under university statute. It comprises members of the teaching staff and other persons as appointed by the University Council. The responsibility for making academic decisions lies with the faculty board, which comprises heads of schools, appointed and elected members, elected members of the general staff, student members, nominees of other faculties and the library.
The faculty also has a number of committees, including an executive committee, undergraduate and graduate studies committees, and committees for research, international and external relations, and finance and resources.
The Faculty of Arts is one of the largest in the university both in terms of student and staff numbers and operates on the Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland and Peninsula campuses in Australia, at the Monash Malaysia campus in Kuala Lumpur and Monash South Africa campus in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. The faculty has about 4000 undergraduate students and offers undergraduate degrees and diplomas as well as a large range of postgraduate programs.
The Faculty of Arts is responsible for the administration of all the degrees in the faculty in addition to two university degrees: the Bachelor of Communication degree offered on the Berwick campus and the Bachelor of Arts, an open-access degree available through Open Learning Australia. The staff in the faculty offices provide advice and assistance to prospective students, enrolled students and handle inquiries from the general public on a range of faculty and course matters.
