The Master of Midwifery by coursework and minor thesis will normally be
undertaken through an articulating pathway where the first year of study
(full-time equivalent) is taken as the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery. Students
then enter the second part of the course with up to 50 per cent
advanced standing towards the masters degree. The Master of Midwifery
articulated course is undertaken over two years part-time study (or one year
full-time study), and the flexible structure enables students to undertake a
variety of subjects in combination with a minor thesis/project.
To be eligible for admission to candidature, a person must have endorsement as a midwife with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1) or be eligible for endorsement as a midwife with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1); a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery or equivalent; Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent; a minimum of 12 months experience as a midwife.
Students are required to complete a program of study comprising course work and/or thesis/project to the value of 96 credit points. Applicants are encouraged to discuss with the course coordinator a range of options which may be undertaken in order to fulfil the requirements for the award.
