The discipline of justice studies involves academic study of the criminal
justice system and, in some cases, extends to general social justice studies.
As such, legitimate areas for study in justice studies include, for example,
police and policing issues, crime prevention, social justice and crime, as well
as victim-offender mediation, shame and reintegration of offenders, etc.
Academic strengths relevant to the discipline at Monash University include
police-government relations, police ethics and accountability, civilian
oversight of police, victims and victimisation, crime prevention, politics of
policing protests, public order policing, crime fiction, mediation and the
courts.
