French studies

Supervision of PhD and research masters candidature is available. Refer to the front of the Arts postgraduate section for course details. Areas of research specialisation are nineteenth-century French studies (especially Zola and the late nineteenth-century novel),) , the contemporary novel (especially Queneau, Blanchot and detective fiction), post-surrealist poetry (especially Ponge, Bonnefoy and Guilloux), contemporary popular culture, translation studies, and applied linguistics (especially the uses of the computer as applied language learning). Work in the area of critical theory and practice focuses on discourse theory and sociocriticism. The French studies department is also home to the Australian Journal of French Studies.
