Course code: 1764 Gippsland campus Full-fee-paying course with the possibility of some HECS places Attendance is compulsory at a four-day residential school
Engineering
maintenance/asset management has tremendous opportunity for improvement, and
much scope for contributing significantly to an organisation's profitability.
This has never been more so with many existing assets required to last longer
and work better.
Since 1985, hundreds of engineers, managers and senior technical people, from
many industries around Australia and overseas, have increased their skills and
capability in asset management by completing Monash University courses in
maintenance.
These courses are available by distance education only - these units are not
available on campus.
The course satisfies the continuing education requirements of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
Admission
is open to those who are eligible for graduate membership of the Institution of
Engineers, Australia, or to those who hold another degree acceptable to the
Monash University Faculty of Engineering.
Applicants without the above qualification may apply for the graduate
certificate course.
Some individual units may be studied alone, as `non-award', meaning that they
do not count towards the graduate certificate or diploma. No residential
attendance is required, and anybody interested is invited to enrol. These are
available only on a fee-paying basis, and no supporting documents are required
with application.
Applicants must supply a legally certified copy of their degree testamur or
other qualifications. Note that certification is not required for certificates
from private non-award short courses.
Applicants must supply a letter from their employer, showing awareness of the
course requirements and commitments expected of the student. This requirement
may be waived where the applicant is self-employed, or in other exceptional
circumstances, provided the applicant can provide assurances about their
ability to meet the time commitment of the program, and has access to practical
situations for field projects and research.
Non-graduate certificate applicants must show evidence of industry-based
training or other qualifications considered acceptable to the university which
show that the applicant has a good chance of successfully completing the
course. A resume (ie CV) detailing the applicant's industrial experience and
certified by the applicant's employer must also be lodged with application.
Details of responsibility level are helpful (ie budget, number of staff, value
of assets).
Attendance at a residential school is compulsory.
This course is normally completed in one year by distance education.
All units start in March and finish in December.
This varies from unit to unit. Generally a unit has a combination of assignments and examination.
All students will be required to complete the 24 credit points required to qualify for the graduate certificate.
Upon passing the graduate certificate course, a student with average gradings of 65 per cent or higher can apply for advanced standing and articulate into the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Maintenance Management.
