Synopsis: What is the point or object of moral practice? Can we objectively justify our moral beliefs and our moral motivations? These questions are the subject of this unit. The first part of the unit examines the relationship between morality and social practice, self-interest and the capacity to engage in rational reflection. The second part examines the nature of value and the constituents of the good life, with particular reference to texts by ancient Greek philosophers.
