Accounting and finance for the arts

6 points + 3-hour session per week + First semester + Clayton + Prohibitions: AFC1021/2 or AFC1031/2 or equivalents

Synopsis: Introduction to areas of accounting and finance useful to managers in arts organisations. Topics an introduction to the balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow statements; an accounting systems approach to recording processes; the characteristics of various reporting entities and the accounting and reporting requirements for each type of entity, analysis and interpretation of financial statements; costs, cost behaviour and budgeting as applicable to arts organisations; project evaluations and working capital management.

Assessment: Practice set and other written: 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60%
