Aims

Professional recognition

This course is recognised by the College of General Practitioners.

Entry requirements

Applicants for candidature must hold a medical degree and have at least three years experience in clinical medicine.

Special requirements/costs

Students will require access to a PC with a Web browser. Interstate and overseas students will also require access to their local forensic facilities.

Attendance

Students will be required to attend the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine for two weeks in both years of the course.

Course structure

The course is two years part-time. The course consists of six subjects comprising three compulsory core subjects and three elective subjects. Core subjects will be offered in one year and the elective subjects in the following year. Students may enter the course in either year.

Assessment

Continuous assessment is carried out via case studies and assignments and formal assessment by oral presentation and examination.

Credits/exemptions

Credit transfer (up to a maximum of 30 per cent) may be granted for previously completed work which is substantially similar in terms of content, duration and standards as subjects contained in the Graduate Diploma of Forensic Medicine.
