The course aims to prepare nurses for advanced nursing practice in order to contribute to the health of individuals, families and communities and to the development of the profession.
To
be eligible for admission, applicants must have a Bachelor of Nursing or
equivalent with a high level of achievement such as distinctions or honours,
normally have two years relevant professional experience, and relevant
registration (eg. Division 1 with the Nurses Board of Victoria). If normal
entry requirements are not met, students may be allowed to undertake and
satisfactorily complete such subjects as determined by the Faculty Board in
order to qualify for admission to candidature.
In addition to completing the application for admission form, applicants are
also required to complete a course administration form which is available from
the course inquiries centre on telephone 1800 671845. Applicants may be
required to attend an interview for successful entry into the course.
This course requires satisfactory completion of studies totalling ninety-six credit points. This may be achieved through a combination of minor thesis and coursework, or research project and coursework, or by coursework only. Students are encouraged to discuss a range of options which may be undertaken in order to fulfil the requirements for the award with the relevant course coordinator. In addition to those listed, to provide flexibility, students may select from a range of graduate diploma programs offered by the school. Students should seek advice when constructing their individual program of study from the relevant course coordinator.
Students
may undertake a component of their award by research through a minor thesis (to
the value of thirty-six credit points - approximately 25,000 words) or a
project (to the value of twenty-four credit points - approximately 15,000
words). Though the requirements for the thesis and project are different, all
students will be supervised in their research by a staff member.
The following twelve-credit-point masters subjects are available:
An example of a course structure for a student undertaking their award with a minor thesis is as follows:
Assessment for the course is a combination of assignment work, projects, and seminar presentations.
Students who wish to seek credits and exemptions from course requirements (because of relevant and equivalent studies in other courses or institutions) should complete the application for credit transfer form, located at the back of this book.
