Graduate Diploma of Business (Tourism Management)


General information

Aims

The graduate certificate and the graduate diploma provide graduates with an opportunity to study the operations and management of the tourism industry as a business process. The primary objective of the courses is to produce qualified managers who can assist in building a professional approach to tourism services in Australia.

Entry requirements

Graduate certificate

An applicant for admission to candidature must have a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants must also possess at least three years full-time appropriate employment experience.

Graduate diploma

As for graduate certificate or an executive certificate offered by the faculty with an average grade of credit or above.

Intake

Applicants should note that there are two intakes per year to these courses, one to commence in first semester, and the second to commence in second semester.

Special requirements

PC requirement

Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of wordprocessing and other software packages.

Attendance

Weekend schools are run three times each semester for many of the graduate subjects. Attendance is optional for those students wishing to attend.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate of Business (Tourism Operations) comprises four compulsory subjects as follows:

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate of Business (Tourism Operations) may then advance to the Graduate Diploma of Business (Tourism Management).
The Graduate Diploma of Business (Tourism Management) consists of the above four subjects and the following four additional subjects normally taken over the second year of study:

For the Graduate Diploma of Business (Tourism Management) it is necessary to undertake two electives. The following subjects are recommended by the course director as having the greatest potential in tourism management. Semester availability is shown in brackets.

Assessment

Assessment is by a combination of assignments and final examination for each subject. Generally a pass is required in the final examination to pass the subject.

Credits/exemptions

Applicants who have completed graduate-level subjects at a recognised tertiary institution, within the last five years, which are similar in content to a subject forming part of the course of study may apply for a credit exemption to a maximum of 50 per cent of the course.
