This
course aims to provide an opportunity for the post-degree extension of studio
studies in visual arts.
The course is designed for graduates, impeded by distance or employment, to
have the opportunity to undertake advanced studies in painting, photography,
sculpture or ceramics, while remaining in their own studios or workshops at home.
Degree or three-year diploma with at least one year of independent work or equivalent professional experience. Submission of a written proposal/statement of intent covering studio work and topic for a research paper, plus slides of recent work and curriculum vitae. Completed graduate diploma application form and general admissions application form. Evidence of appropriate studio/workshop facilities.
Students
are required to attend at least one compulsory designated program normally of
one week on campus per year. This would usually be the graduate diploma
mid-year residential symposium held in late June or early July. At this
symposium all graduate diploma students participate, including full and
part-time students on campus.
Students are also required to attend the day of final assessment on-campus
unless other arrangements have been made, in exceptional circumstances only.
Students in the ceramics studio are required to pay a fee for use of video
equipment for reporting.
The course consists of a comprehensive study program of two years duration by distance education.

Advanced studies in painting, photography, sculpture and ceramics. On completion of these studies, students are expected to have developed attitudes towards their discipline which promote understanding of the artistic context of their practice; increased their understanding of the process of formulating, planning and conducting research programs relevant to their practice and discipline by individual research proposals and carrying them through with appropriate supervision; critical and analytical skills appropriate to individually formulated research topics, resulting in a research paper; verbal presentation, documentation of practice, networking and public presentation of artwork; and artwork and a research paper for critical assessment as a conclusion on the ongoing supervision processes which are essentially critical in nature.
An
extensive course of professional studio practice in painting, photography,
ceramics or sculpture, with emphasis on critical evaluation. Students are
encouraged to revise and strengthen the assumptions and beliefs upon which
their undergraduate work was based. Progress during the course is monitored by
regular reports from the student to the supervisor. Further details are

education students' provided to all enrolled students at the commencement of
each year.
The subject content is determined by a written proposal submitted by the

Assessment is based on participation and on submission of studio work and written work as appropriate to the investigations carried out. Before the completion of the course, a final submission of work in a form suitable for assessment is required.
