Minimum entry requirements

To gain entry to Monash University as an undergraduate student in 2000, applicants must normally satisfy the university's minimum entrance requirements. These may be satisfied as follows:

• completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), including units 3 and 4 of English, or an equivalent qualification (eg Higher School Certificate prior to 1987 in Group 1 subjects); or
• completion of a comparable qualification to the VCE (eg interstate or Year 12, International Baccalaureate); or
• completion of the first year of a TAFE associate diploma or advanced certificate (level four and above); or
• completion of at least two semester-length subjects at degree, diploma or associate diploma level, including any non-award/single-subject studies.

Special admissions entry

Open learning

Applicants who have not satisfied the minimum entry requirements will also be considered for admission if they have satisfactorily completed at least two approved subjects through the Open Learning Agency of Australia Pty Ltd (or, in 1992, through TV Open Learning).

Entry requirements - postgraduate courses

Entry requirements for Monash University postgraduate courses offered by distance education are specified under the relevant course entries within this handbook.

Interstate and overseas qualifications

Applicants who have satisfied the university's entrance requirements in another state (HSC or other final school year) are normally deemed to have satisfied the Victorian tertiary entrance requirements. However if your final school year did not include English and you have not completed any tertiary studies, you should contact the relevant faculty for advice.
Overseas qualifications in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent resident visa, you are advised to contact the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR), GPO Box 1407, Canberra ACT 2601 for assessment of qualifications before lodging an application.
