Attendance

General information

Attendance may be compulsory, optional or not required. Specific details are contained in the course and subject descriptions in this book.

Compulsory attendance

Compulsory attendance is required primarily for courses which are laboratory-based or require group interaction. These courses include but are not restricted to studies in biology, chemistry and physics (from second year), engineering, visual arts studio subjects, psychology, social welfare and social work.

Optional attendance

Many of the Gippsland-based courses and subjects offer classes at weekend schools (three times per semester). A number of courses and subjects based at other campuses also conduct weekend and residential schools. Attendance at all or any of these classes is encouraged. The classes are organised to provide distance education students with the opportunity for interaction with both lecturers and fellow students, and to provide access to study facilities such as libraries and computer laboratories. Students unable to attend these optional classes will not be disadvantaged however, and in some cases are provided with an audio tape of the class.

Attendance not required

Many courses require no on-campus attendance by students and do not even offer classes for optional attendance.
