The
college proposes to introduce a new course from the year 2000. It will be the
Bachelor of Applied Science (Product Development) which will be offered as a
three-year full-time course. The aim of the course is to provide graduates with
a knowledge and understanding of the science and technology which underpins the
development of new products for the pharmaceutical, personal care, food and
consumer chemicals industries. Products from these industries share the need to
be safe, suitable for the intended use, stable, economically viable and
compliant with regulatory requirements. This course will provide the grounding
necessary to design such products. Entry into the course will be via VCE or
equivalent with specified levels of performance in the prerequisite subjects of
English, Chemistry and Mathematical Methods.
For additional information on this proposed course, interested persons could
contact Dr Barrie Finnin at the college on 03 9903 9000.
Monash
University will be offering a new course in pharmacoeconomics by distance
education from second semester 1998. The course is an extension of the highly
successful Certificate in Health Economics that has been offered by the Health
Economics Unit of the Centre for Health Program Evaluation since 1993. It
extends the skills acquired in that course particularly in the area of the
evaluation of health services in general and the pharmaceutical sector in
particular. This is a part of the health sector that has been the subject of an
increasing regulatory control based in part on economic principles. The course
will be offered by the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Business and
Economics in collaboration with the Victorian College of Pharmacy and the
Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine.
The course would be of substantial benefit to those involved with the industry
and hospital pharmacy practice who need a knowledge of the basic ideas of
economics and epidemiology and their application to the evaluation of drugs. No
previous knowledge of economics is required.
For additional information on this course, interested persons could contact Dr
Jo-anne Brien at the college on 03 9903 9000.
