Disability support services

The Monash University Disability Support program (MUDS) provides comprehensive support services, equipment and facilities to students with temporary or permanent disabilities or medical conditions. These services are varied and include provision of pre-application advice, assistance with enrolment and orientation, course and research materials in alternative formats such as braille and audio tapes, note-taking services, alternative arrangements for assessment and examinations, advocacy through representation and grievance procedures, provision of specialised equipment such as hearing loops, furniture, or specialised software. For more information on the MUDS program, a confidential appointment or a copy of this guide, contact the disability liaison officer. Language and Learning Services Unit (LLS)

Staff of the Language and Learning Services Unit at the Caulfield, Clayton, Peninsula and Gippsland campuses are available to assist undergraduate and postgraduate Computing students in improving their written and oral expression, their reading, listening and note-taking, and their approaches to study. Courses (both general and discipline specific), workshops and individual sessions are offered at different times in the academic year and are free of charge. Special assistance is given in thesis writing for postgraduate students. At Caulfield and Peninsula campuses, there are student resource centres. There is also a self-access computer lab at Clayton campus. At Berwick, LLS resources are available in the library.

English language proficiency

When applying for a course, international students must provide proof of their proficiency in English. Alternatively, if a student is awaiting results from an English proficiency test and the minimum academic entrance requirements have been met, a student may be granted a conditional offer for a course. Students who receive a conditional offer must provide proof of meeting the condition specified in the offer (eg English proficiency), prior to or on the enrolment date. Details of the English proficiency requirements are available from any of the faculty offices.

Support services for international students

International students should also read the earlier section 'Information for new students'. In addition to the assistance outlined in that section the faculty has a number of staff who are available to assist international students.
Administrative staff are available to assist with matters relating to enrolment. The undergraduate studies coordinators and postgraduate studies officers are available to assist with course progression matters.
The international programs manager provides advice on admissions requirements, application procedures, enrolment matters and the faculty's international programs.
Language support staff are available at the faculty level and the university level. Students are strongly encouraged to make use of these services.
