Introduction

This double degree course requires four years of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study by distance education. It offers a cost-efficient and time-effective pathway for students to prepare themselves for a science-oriented career in research, industry or commercial settings where a professional level of skill in computer software development and information technology is valuable. The course has been designed to incorporate subjects that provide core scientific, mathematical and computing skills as well as specialist studies in each area.
The course meets the requirements for level-one accreditation by the Australian Computer Society.
The course is directed towards intending students who have relevant career goals and who combine ability with high motivation.
Students who have good academic results from the first year of the Bachelor of Science or the Bachelor of Computing may be admitted to the second year of the double degree with full credit for appropriate first-year studies.

Entry requirements

The basic entry requirement is satisfactory completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent. Applicants will be expected to have a grade average of at least C in English and a grade average of at least D in Mathematics (any).

Course structure

Subjects with a credit value of at least 192 points must be completed as follows:

(a) System development major

As for the Bachelor of Computing Gippsland Campus, including GCO1063 and omitting GCO2811.

(b) Business systems major

As for the Bachelor of Computing Gippsland Campus, omitting AFG1003.

Science subjects

Subjects with a total credit value of at least ninety-six points drawn from the Schedule of Approved Science Subjects for Bachelor of Science degree. These studies must include
(a) two science discipline sequences (excluding computing) consisting of:

in one discipline area across levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively and of twenty-four points in a second discipline area (including at least twelve points from levels 2 and 3);
(b) two level-one core subjects:

(c) One subject from one of the following groups (This subject is to be drawn from a different group from those which include the two chosen science discipline sequences in (a))
