The
current Bachelor of Engineering courses at all campuses, the engineering double
degree courses at Clayton and Gippsland and the Bachelor of Computer Science
and Engineering at Clayton are all accredited for the purpose of admission to
membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (IEAust). Of the more
recently commenced courses, the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering and the
Bachelor of Software Engineering courses have been designed to meet the
accreditation requirements of the IEAust. The Bachelor of Environmental
Engineering was granted preliminary accreditation in 1996.
The 'new', single Bachelor of Engineering degree, introduced in eight branches
of engineering in four campuses in 1999, has been subject to IEAust
accreditation procedures in the second half of 1998. So also have all the other
undergraduate single and double degree programs offered by the faculty,
including the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering, the Bachelor of Computer
Systems Engineering (in 1998 or earlier named the Bachelor of Computer Science
and Engineering), the Bachelor of Software Engineering and the three Bachelor
of Technology degrees. Information about the outcome of the accreditation
process is available from the faculty administration office on each campus.
In order to fulfil the requirements of the various degree regulations and of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, all engineering students must complete twelve weeks of approved engineering work experience and submit a report on that work. Such work is normally undertaken in the vacations between second and third years and/or between third and fourth years (but may also be taken between first and second years). Students who have completed all academic requirements for their degrees are not eligible to graduate until this work experience has been completed.
