Aims

The course aims to assist students to recognise the need for innovation in health care and respond to the challenge of change. It is designed to consolidate the nurse's role as educator, clinician, researcher, manager, patient advocate and to promote quality nursing care. The conceptual framework aims to base nursing practice on appropriate nursing research and theory within both ethical and legal parameters. Health promotion and the improvement of health care delivery are also important themes within the course.

Entry requirements

In addition to completing the Application for Admission form, applicants must also complete a course administration form which is available from the Course Inquiries Centre on telephone 1800 671845. Prerequisite for selection to this course is that of a Registered Nurse (Division 1 or Division 3) or eligibility for registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria. Consideration is also given to experience and motivation.

Special requirements

Access to a personal computer is recommended.

Attendance

Weekend School sessions are offered but attendance is optional.

Course structure

The course

The course consists of seven nursing subjects and one non-nursing subject. The duration is usually two years by distance education. It may be possible to undertake some subjects by internal mode at the Peninsula campus.

Assessment

Assessment is by a combination of assignment work and examination.

Credits/exemptions

Students who wish to seek credits and exemptions from course requirements (because of relevant and equivalent studies in other courses or institutions) should apply through the administrative officer (undergraduate), School of Nursing, to the Head of the School of Nursing.
