This
course has been especially designed to provide a national graduate level course
tailored specifically to the retail industry. It is suitable for experienced
retail managers.
The objectives of the course focus on eight key areas of study:
(a) application of marketing theory and practices to the development of a
business marketing planning strategy;
(b) integration of organisational behaviour and management functions to
influence performance in organisations;
(c) understanding of the components of a retail business strategy through
the application of retail strategic and financial planning;
(d) strategic management issues resulting from developments in technology
applicable to the retail industry;
(e) application of consumer behaviour theory to the development of retail
marketing strategies;
(f) application of the tools of financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting
and performance measurement to retail business;
(g) strategic view of international retail markets in the context of
issues facing retail executives;
(h) integration of functions in a business to enable competitive and
comparative strategic analysis.
This course is recognised by the Retailers Council of Australia.
Applicants should have completed a degree from a recognised tertiary institution in a discipline other than retail/marketing and have at least three years of middle to senior level retail management experience. Applicants who have completed the Executive Certificate in Retail Business with an average grade of credit or above, or the Graduate Certificate in Retail Business are also eligible to apply. Applicants without a first degree but with at least six years of middle to senior level retail management experience should refer to the course entry on the Executive Certificate in Retail Business.
Applicants will need to submit a personal professional profile outlining their previous tertiary study, retail management experience and professional referees in addition to the application for admission form.
This course is a two year part-time distance education program comprising eight subjects. Students undertake two core subjects each semester as set out below.

The course progression is designed to introduce students to marketing and
management principles and concepts in the first year, and then to build on
those subjects with the retail, financial, international and strategic subjects
in the second year.
Generally a combination of assignments and a final examination.
Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details. Applicants who have completed the Executive Certificate in Retail Business and have attained a credit average or above, or the Graduate Certificate in Retail Business will gain credit for the first four subjects.
