Where students meet the entry and course requirements for each degree, they can, if admitted to the second degree course, complete it with a minimum of the equivalent of one additional year's full-time study.
The Bachelor of Economics allows significant flexibility in the choice of subjects from other disciplines or faculties, so by appropriate choice of subjects a second degree in arts, science or computing and also commerce can be completed after the equivalent of a further year's full-time study.
Students undertaking any of the Bachelor of Business degrees with a specified major have the opportunity to take out a second business degree in another specialisation with the completion of a minimum of eight additional subjects in one year's further study.

Sir John Monash Academic Scholarships

The Faculty of Business and Economics has a commitment to excellence in education and with this aim, the faculty has introduced the Dean's Scholars Awards and Awards for Excellence.

Dean's Scholars Program and Dean's Scholars Award

To be considered for selection into the Dean's Scholars Program students must achieve an ENTER of ninety-three or above. Selection will be primarily based on a student's ENTER but performance in prerequisite subjects may be considered along with information provided by the applicant's school principal. Students will be eligible to choose which single degree program they wish to undertake and at which campus (subject to having the appropriate prerequisites for that degree program). However for the Bachelor of Accounting, admission is also dependent upon interview. Students selected will be given the opportunity to participate in a program of study which extends beyond the usual requirements for the degrees offered by the faculty: students may choose to take additional subjects. To remain enrolled in the Dean's Scholars Program the student must continue to achieve at a high standard, normally distinction level.
Students offered a Dean's Scholars Award may also be offered an Award for Excellence. Those intending to undertake a double degree program may prefer the Award for Excellence.
In conjunction with the program, a number of Sir John Monash Scholarships will be provided which will be equal to the student's up-front HECS fee for each semester. The scholarship will continue for the duration of the course provided the student continues to be enrolled in the Dean's Scholars Program.

Awards for Excellence

Awards for Excellence provide a scholarship of $6000 per annum to a small number of outstanding students entering the faculty. This money can be used to pay up-front HECS or as a living allowance if the deferred HECS option is preferred. These awards are available to students undertaking single or double degree programs controlled by the faculty. A limited number of these awards are available to students with an ENTER above an outstanding level of performance set by the faculty. The scholarship for each award holder will extend for the duration of their course, subject to faculty assessment of continued satisfactory performance.

Monash support bursaries

Monash support bursaries will be provided for fee-paying Australian undergraduate students from equity target groups. The up-front fee will be set at the equivalent to the HECS charge for each individual's course and the faculty will provide at least one of these new bursaries for every twenty fee-paying Australian students in each course.

Monash achievement awards

Domestic fee-paying students who perform exceptionally well in the first year of their course may be eligible for Monash achievement awards which will enable these students to convert to HECS-linked places.

Monash merit and equity awards

The Sir John Monash equity awards provide exemption from liability to pay HECS. The awards are allocated to commencing students from target equity groups on the basis of merit.
Further details about all scholarships offered in 1999 may be obtained from the Scholarships Office, telephone (03) 9905 3013, http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/ssd/sarb/schols/index.htm.
