Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education

This double degree provides students with skills and knowledge in two areas of major study in arts (Indonesian, sociology, history-politics, mass communications, writing) together with a major in education and professional teacher preparation at both primary and secondary level. This course offers the most common pathway to teaching by way of a double degree program in arts and education.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have met the appropriate entry criteria for both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Education. All applicants should be willing to undertake a normal workload of forty-eight points a year full-time or twenty-four points to thirty-two a year part-time. Most studies must be taken on-campus but a few may be available by distance education.

Course structure and sequence

A candidate for the double degree must fulfil the following requirements to receive the awards of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education:
(a) complete a total of 208 but not more than 216 points;
(b) complete two arts major sequences (fifty-two points each) offered by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences;
(c) complete a major sequence in education studies (fifty-two points) and a major sequence in teaching and curriculum studies (fifty-two points) offered by the Faculty of Education (Gippsland).

Arts major sequences

The arts major sequences may be chosen from history-politics, Indonesian, sociology, mass communcations or writing (details are provided under the discipline headings).

Duration

The course of study is normally a minimum of four years full-time or eight years part-time and normally cannot extend beyond ten years.
