Faculty of Arts review

The Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor David Robinson initiated a review of the Faculty of Arts in June 1998 which commissioned the dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Marian Quartly to establish a review group to identify the academic course and research directions for Arts at Monash within the context of The Monash Plan 1998-2002.
At the time of publication the review group has published a blueprint document which has been subsequently amended by Faculty Board.
A copy of Arts at Monash: A Blueprint for Change: As amended by Faculty Board on the 9 September 1998 can be found at the following web site: http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/faculty_admin/deans_establishment/bp/bpHome.shtml. This web site will be updated as new developments occur.
The faculty will publish in December 1998 an addendum to the handbook which will provide an overview of the new structure of the faculty, any changes to course and subjects offerings and a staff list for 1999.
The Faculty of Arts will continue to stand among the very best of its kind in Australia. The breadth and depth of language teaching, the extensive disciplinary and interdisciplinary and vocational strengths of the various campuses and the offering of a very diverse range of disciplines will ensure that the Faculty of Arts will continue to be an aspect of strategic importance to Monash. Its offerings are suited to providing knowledge and understanding of the social, political and cultural world as well as developing communication skills of students and of recognising the skills required of graduates to enhance the employment opportunities for graduates.
The Faculty of Arts has a sound future and will continue to incorporate both key basic disciplines and the imaginative application of them.
