Two prizes of $1000 are awarded to the top two second-year students completing both of the two first-year earth sciences subjects and proceeding to enrol in the two second-year earth science eight-point major subjects.

Two prizes of $500 for the third and fourth top second-year students, as above.

A prize of $250 for the top second-year student in geology.

Aberfoyle Resources Prize

A prize of $250 for the top third-year student in geology and/or geophysics.

CRA Exploration Prize

A prize of $500 for the top third-year student in mapping.

Pasminco Exploration Prize

A prize of $2000 for the most promising third-year student in geology.

Western Mining Prize for `Hard Rock' Geology

A prize of $500 for the top honours student in the study of `hard rock' geology.

BHP Petroleum Prize

A prize of $500 for the top honours student in the field of petroleum geoscience.

Esso Australia Prizes

A prize of $500 for the top honours student in the field of geophysics. Also, a prize of $5000 for honours students in VIEPS in petroleum geoscience.

Postgraduate Earth Sciences Publication Prize

A prize of $250 for the best published journal paper by a postgraduate student.
