Students reaching a sufficient standard in third-year physiology (credit or better) may be invited to proceed to a fourth-year for the honours degree of BSc in physiology, subject to acceptance by the head of the department. A main objective of this course is to introduce students to research. In addition, the year's work will include training in advanced laboratory techniques, lectures and tutorials, critical reading of the literature and preparation of essays. Each student will be assigned to a supervisor within the department or in one of its affiliated institutes in order to carry out a research project involving experiments of a publishable standard. This project will form the basis of a research report to be presented at the end of the year.
