Systems physiology
Dr Alan Tilbrook
8 points * Three 1-hour lectures and 5 hours practical per week * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: PHY2011
This subject is designed to provide a basic knowledge and understanding of the physiology of the major organ systems of the body. These include the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastro-intestinal, renal, endocrine and reproductive systems. Consideration of each system will include its structure, function, control by the nervous and endocrine systems, adaptations to different environments and an introduction to patho-physiological aspects. The interrelationships between these systems will be emphasised. Students should note that selection into the third-year subject is based on second-year marks and is competitive. A pass mark in PHY2011 and PHY2022 is no guarantee of a place in PHY3011 and PHY3022.
Assessment
Mid-semester multiple-choice question test: 10% * Practical written examination: 30% * Theory written examination: 55% * Practical book assessment: 5%
