Algorithms and architectures for image processing

Imaging devices. Principles of illumination. Frame store fundamentals. Colour in vision. Physiology of the human vision system. Perception. Computer architecture and image processing hardware, the Connection machine, pyramids and mesh-connected processors. Neural networks. Cellular automata. Parallel processing algorithms. Real-time data compression techniques.

Assessment

Examination (1.5 hours): 50% * Laboratory exam: 50%
