Legal, ethical and professional issues

Half semester * 3 hours per week

This half-semester subject is designed to familiarise students with legal and ethical codes which regulate the conduct of the psychologist and to familiarise students with relevant legal procedures. Topics include registration of psychologists, code of professional conduct, confidentiality and professional privilege, informed consent, legal rights of clients, legal status of children and the intellectually disabled, establishing who is the client.

Assessment

Exam: 20% * Seminar presentation: 30% * Written paper: 50%

Practical

Students are required to complete four weeks observing psychologists in various forensic settings and two practica of approximately fourteen weeks each. These practica must be supervised by a registered forensic psychologist.
