Mathematical statistics

6 points * Three 1-hour lectures per week, one 1-hour tutorial * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: At levels 3 and 4, VCE Mathematical Methods * Corequisites: MAT1010 or MAT1050 * Prohibitions: MAT1060, MAT1711, MAT1722

Introductory probability: conditional probability, independence, Bayes' Theorem. Random walks, matching problems and occupancy problems. Statistical inference: estimation and tests of hypotheses, correlation and regression, chi-square test of goodness of fit. Use of Minitab.

Examinations (3 hours): 85% * Assignments (2): 7% * Tests (3): 8%
