Techniques of survey and analysis in geography

This subject explores the use of geographical data to increase our understanding of both the physical and social world. The ability to observe, record, analyse and present spatial and temporal information in a rigorous and effective manner is a primary requirement of a graduate in geography. Such skills are in wide demand. The subject emphasises techniques and methods which are applicable to a range of situations. Lectures examine themes such as methodological issues, observational methods, sampling, statistical analysis, computer graphics and data presentation. Attendance is required at all lectures and practical/tutorials. Lectures will not be taped.

Written (4000 words): 35% * Examinations (2 hours): 30% * Practical work: 35%
