This subject describes and accounts for the interdependence between the physical and human dimensions of the environment. An examination is made of past and present pressures on global life support systems - the oceans, atmosphere, forests, croplands and grasslands - and policy responses to environmental degradation and resource depletion are analysed. The issues are examined at the global, national and state levels.
