Genetics
Dr Stephen McKechnie
8 points * 9 hours per week * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: GEN2011
GEN2022 builds on the basic genetic principles covered in GEN2011 and introduces some of the more specialist areas of modern genetics, especially microbial genetics and the principles of recombinant DNA analysis. The molecular basis for gene transcription and translation to form macromolecules is addressed. Novel aspects of plant genetics are emphasised and the basis of plant genetic engineering is covered. Practical classes and problem sessions are designed to complement the lecture material.
Assessment
Examinations (3 hours): 70%) * Practical work: 25% * Assignments: 5%
