Systems programming

6 points * First semester * 4 hours per week * internal and distance education study * Prerequisite: GCO2814

Using existing systems software: shell scripts, filters, debugging and other tools. Developing systems software: making operating system calls, techniques used in common systems programs. Compilers and interpreters: using lex and yacc to facilitate software development. Access to the university's computer systems via modem is compulsory for distance education students, in order to maintain effective communication with staff and other students, and also for the submission of assignments and the provision of supplementary study material.
