Research methods in psychology

Subject value of 1.0 (6 point) * First semester * One 2-hour lecture and one 2-hour laboratory per week * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: Two subjects from GAS2501, GAS2502 and GAS2503, or equivalent second-level subjects

This subject will deal with principles of research design and analysis in psychology. There are two main components: methodology and statistics. Methodological issues to be covered relate to methods of data collection, operationalising variables, experimental design, control problems, and classifying threats to valid inference. Statistical procedures to be covered are revision of chi-square test, t-test and correlation; simple regression will be introduced as will more advanced topics such as ANOVA. Distance education students are required to attend one full-day program at weekend schools.

Assignments: 40% * Examination: 60% * A pass on the examination is a requirement for successful completion of this subject
