Experimental social psychology

Subject value of 1.0 (6 points) * First semester *Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour laboratory per week Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: GAS2504 plus two subjects from GAS2501, GAS2502, GAS2503 or equivalent second-level subjects.

This subject will review recent experimental research and theoretical developments in social psychology. The emphasis will be on the role of laboratory experimentation in testing and refining theories, and as such will complement the applied social orientation in GAS2502. An extensive laboratory program will aim to illustrate a range of experimental paradigms used in social psychology. Topics covered will include person perception, social cognition, attitudes, social influence and social interaction. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend or residential school program.

Assessment

Two laboratory reports: 50% * Examination: 50% * A pass on the examination is a requirement for successful completion of this subject.
