BT BW BB BS DT GA PA BC BP BDT BY BBS

Dr Susan Kelliher, Dr Barry Richardson and Dr Dianne Wuillemin

Subject value of 1.0 (6 points) * Second semester * 2- hour lecture, 3-hour laboratory per week * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: GAS2504 plus two subjects from GAS2501, GAS2502, GAS2503 or equivalent second-level subjects.

Material covered in GAS2504 (particularly ANOVA) is briefly reviewed with more emphasis on post hoc comparisons, design issues, and multiple variables. Other topics include multiple regression, single subject designs, and the use of statistical computer packages to handle complex designs such as MANOVA. The teaching of these topics has the aim of increasing students' ability to design and conduct their own research, and to broaden the field of others' research that students can critically evaluate. Topics will be treated within the context of writing research reports suitable for replication and/or publication. The purpose in doing this is to prepare students for postgraduate work in psychology. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend or residential school session involving the use of computer statistical packages.

Assessment

Assignments: 40% * Examinations: 60% * A pass on the examination is a requirement for successful completion of this subject.
