Topics covered are pre-transition elements; equilibria; solutions; electrochemical concepts; crystal structure; structure and properties of carbon compounds, and analytical applications. The subject is taught by lectures, tutorials and laboratory classes. Comprehensive study guides and laboratory guides are provided.

Assessment

Progressive assessment with theory component: 80% * Laboratory component: 20% * Satisfactory performances in both theory and laboratory components are required in order to pass the subject * Relevance of laboratory work to theoretical study: laboratory exercises are used to extend theoretical understanding as well as develop practical skills in the subject matter
