Anatomy

First semester, anatomy and histology. ANT2011 provides an understanding at the macroscopic and microscopic levels of the structure and function of limbs, the central, autonomic and peripheral nervous system and the cellular basis of human tissues and their functional organisation into organ systems. Topics will include osteology, radiology, myology, biomechanics related to muscle actions and movements, and studies of the relationships of bone, muscle, joints, arteries, veins and nerves in the human lower limb. The recognition and function of primary tissue types is considered together with methods of tissue preparation, cell ultrastructure, cell biology, neurohistology and introductory pathology. The following items are required: 1. white laboratory coat ; 2. dissecting instruments: scissors, forceps (blunt and toothed) and a fixed-blade scalpel; 3. disposable gloves.

Assessment

Essay assignment (2000 words): 20% * Examinations (3 hours): 50% * Viva voce examination: 30%
