Power and politics

Through the use of the substantive area of the sociology of health and illness, students will be introduced to the discipline of sociology as a means for looking beyond taken-for-granted and commonsense understandings of society. Particular emphasis will be placed on the application of the concepts of power and control in a variety of structural issues and interactive settings. Areas discussed in this subject include the organisation and delivery of health care in Australia; the macro-politics of health care; the micro-politics of health care; social and political consequences of current and emerging issues in health care; and grey power.
