Stimulus-response model. Nature of stimuli. Characteristics of sense organs. Diffuse senses. Special senses. Nature of nervous tissue. Membrane potentials and action potentials. Impulse transmission, synapses, integration. Structure and function of the spinal cord. Structure and function of the brain. Autonomic nervous system. Nature of motor responses. Disorders of the nervous system. Nature of hormones and their activity. Functions and malfunctions of the endocrine system. Effects of ageing on body systems. The subject is taught by lectures, demonstrations and laboratory work.

Assessment

Examination (2 hours): 70% * Laboratory assessment: 30%
