Human responses to health/health breakdown V: physiological and psychosocial nursing phenomena - people in crisis

10 points * 5 hours per week * Plus 160 clinical hours * First semester * Peninsula * Prerequisites: NSG2003, NSG2004, NSG2330, NSG2340 * Pre or corequisites: NSG3655, NSG3350 if scheduled in first semester

The theme of alteration in the body's protective mechanisms is examined by exploring the concepts of reality testing, impaired immunocompetence, impaired wound healing, altered clotting and impaired sleep. Particular emphasis will be given to coping strategies and psycho-therapeutic measures. The subject is taught by lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, group work, discussions, laboratory and clinical practice.

Assessment

Assignment: 50% * Examination (2 hours): 50% * To be credited with a pass or higher grade, a satisfactory level must be achieved in the clinical performance area, including documented mastery of a minimum of five specified skills as listed in the clinical objectives * 80% attendance at laboratory classes * 100% attendance at clinical practice is mandatory
